Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which Journey to use?

Both Journeys were birthed in prayer and are used in the same way for discipleship.  The major difference is the length of reading in each Journey.  There is really no right-or-wrong in selecting a Journey.  If you are not a strong reader the first option of the Journey may suit you better (Story Bookmarks).  If you are a strong reader you would probably gravitate towards the second option of the Journey (Journey Bookmarks).  Again, there is no right-or-wrong the goal is to become immersed in God’s Word.  Our advice is for you to pray to the Lord where to begin.

In both Journeys’ why must I read the same book or story every day?

We ask people to read the same book every day because this allows the Word to dwell in them richly (Colossians 3:16).  God does deep transforming work when we linger long in the same book of the Bible for an entire week.  We must remember that God’s Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12) and reading the same book every day for seven days allows us time to “hear” exactly what Jesus is wanting to say to us through His Word.  We should never think that we have completely exhausted the depths of God’s word.

In the Journey how do you possibly read an entire book every day when reading longer books, such as, Isaiah or Genesis?

The Journey Bookmarks covers every book in God’s Word and it would not be reasonable to expect someone to read a much longer book in its entirety every day.  While repetition is preferred when reading through the Journey, this is not possible in the longer books.  For instance, a book like Genesis could be read over a two or even three-week period.  There is no legalistic approach to the Journey.  The goal is to simply consume God’s Word every day.  When we feel we have to meet some type of requirement, we have missed the point.  The point is a commitment to spending time in God’s Word every day as we grow in intimacy with Jesus.

How much does the Journey cost?

Nothing, the Journey is completely free.  All that is required to make disciples through the Journey is God’s Word, God’s Spirit, and a sincere heart to grow in your relationship with Jesus.  When all of this is coupled together with a few people who share the same sincere desires, God will do an awesome work in your life as you walk through the Journey!

How did you decide the order of the readings in each Journey?

Both Journeys were birthed through prayer.  Please understand this order was not random or half-heartedly constructed.  Over a period of time, God revealed the order of both Journey’s and how they should be engaged.  They are His plans for His purpose.

I’m unfamiliar with reading God’s Word to “hear” His voice, what do you mean?

Many people are familiar with God’s Word to some degree.  It has been studied academically in seminaries, quoted by people inside and outside the church, and studied by people who have sought to discredit its trustworthiness.  None of this is the intention of the Journey.  The purpose of the Journey is to train your ear to hear God’s voice.  If you are reading Colossians, before you read, sincerely ask the Holy Spirit to meet you in His Word and “speak” to you.  After you pray, start reading, if you get to a certain verse and “pause” or you keep coming back to a specific verse every day through the week, ask the Holy Spirit, “what are you saying to me through this verse?”  God is attuning your ear to His voice.  Over time the voice of God will become clearer, more specific, and more frequent in your daily life.  God speaks but we must learn to listen (Psalm 46:10).

Do you use any additional books/curriculum with the Journey?

No, for the purpose of discipleship we believe God’s Word and God’s Spirit is enough.  We believe God’s Word is living and active, free from error, completely reliable, and God inspired.  For these reasons we are committed to the Holy Scripture. The Bible is the only Book you can read and always have the Author present and it’s the one Book that we are certain God works and speaks through.
